To have a well balanced track means everything. You don't want to have a lot of sounds panned to one side and less to the other. Even the center needs a good balance. Getting the perfect balance can be different from others, here's mine.
I'm not going to tell you what supposed to go left, right, or center. That's your decision. I'm going to tell you ways to get there. When using the pan knobs on your DAW, try not to use the same numbers in the same direction for another pan knob.
Ex. I panned the high hats 30 to the right (I know, I know, crowd perspective) and I had triangles 30 to the right also. That won't balance well. The triangles will most likely get masked. So pan the triangels 30 to the left instead.
Think of every number on the sound stage as a room number, and every sound gets it own room. Yes, some sounds can marry and share the same room such as overheads panned 100 left, or right and you have vocal harmonies panned the same way.
The best way to find a place to pan is using a stereo imager. Narrow the image to the sound and move it left and right until it feels right. Remember to try to have an even amount of pans on left and right.
