Over Compression

Compression tricks and tips are always given. However, nobody talks about over compression. What does it sound like? How does it effect your ears? Let me tell you how.

Over compression can make vocals sound flat and lifeless. It increases sibilance and the "p" and "b' sound will sound funny. Over compression can increase back-round noise and make your overall sound undesirable. Over compression usually happens when compressors aren't properly used properly, or the user wants to get more volume from their signal.

Over compression can cause ear fatigue. Which can shorten the listening time for the listener. Moderation is key when it comes to compression. Understand what each knob do, and never push one compressor to hard. Adding an extra compressor to do a little work can go a long way!
